The APIIT Law School Inter School Debate Competition (ISDC) returns this year, promising to be bigger and better than ever.
Bringing together some of the finest young debaters from over 40 schools across Sri Lanka, this competition aims to inspire courage, foster memorable experiences, and showcase the power of respectful dialogue and innovation, echoing the words of Margaret Heffernan: “For good ideas and true innovation, you need human interaction, conflict, argument, and debate.”
Organized for the third consecutive year by APIIT Law School and endorsed by the Debaters’ Council of Sri Lanka, ISDC ’24 is set to be a grand event. The competition will officially begin with the Grand Inaugural Opening Ceremony on June 1st, providing a comprehensive briefing to all participating teams. The debates will commence on June 8th with the initial rounds, including the Octa Finals and Quarter Finals, all of which will be conducted online via Zoom.
The climax of the competition will unfold on June 15th at APIIT Law School with the thrilling Semi-Finals and Grand Finale, followed by a Closing Ceremony. This on-site event will not only determine the winning team but also celebrate the journey of all participants. These debaters will have the chance to take a “leap of faith” and present well-crafted arguments on diverse topics, demonstrating their dedication and skill.
ISDC ’24 promises to be a fierce battle of wits, perspectives, and arguments. However, the true victory lies in the sportsmanship, camaraderie, and exchange of ideas among the teams. This competition serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of respectful dialogue and the potential it holds for future generations.
ISDC is the brainchild of the Moot, Debate, and Mock Mediation Society (MDMMS) at APIIT Law School. Entirely student-organized, it reflects APIIT’s commitment to holistic legal education and student-driven initiatives. The competition provides a valuable platform for young minds to hone their debating skills and engage in meaningful academic pursuits beyond the classroom.
APIIT’s dedication to offering its students opportunities for skill development and invaluable experiences is evident through events like ISDC. These experiences not only enhance their academic journey but also prepare them for rapid career advancement. ISDC ’24 stands as a testament to APIIT’s mission to nurture well-rounded individuals ready to tackle future challenges.
