2024 World Quizzing Championships on Saturday 1 June


International Quiz Association (IQA), the world’s premiere Quiz organization, will be conducting its annual World Quizzing Championships on Saturday 01 June 2024.

IQA Sri Lanka chapter is conducting this Quiz in Colombo for the 19 th year running, once again giving the Sri Lankan quiz enthusiasts the opportunity to compete in this prestigious world event.

The World Quizzing Championships is made up of eight papers. These are given out in two packs of four papers. Contestants have 60 minutes to answer each pack. Which paper is in which pack will vary from year to year as the IQA draws this at random in order to keep the event a fair as possible.

The subjects within each genre are:

Culture
Architecture, Fine art, Museums, Mythology, Philosophy, Religion, World cultures

Entertainment
Ballet, Classical music, Film Music, Jazz & World Music, Opera, Pop music, Radio, Television

History
Civilisations, Current Affairs, Exploration, Famous People, History

Lifestyle
Costume, Design, Fashion, Food & Drink, Handicrafts, Health & Fitness, Human Body, New
Age beliefs, Products & Brands, Tourism

Media
Comic strips, Comic books, Graphic novels, Film, Language, Literature

Sciences
Exact sciences (Chemistry, Physics etc.), Fauna, Flora, Social sciences

Sport & Games
Games, Sports, Hobbies & Pastimes, Records & achievements (in context of genre)

World
Cities, Human Geography, Physical Geography, Inventions, Space, Technology, Transport

According to Ruwan Senanayake, Sri Lanka representative of the IQA, enthusiastic Sri Lankan quizzers will once again get an opportunity to compete against top contestants from countries such as Australia, Belgium, England, India, Ireland, Finland, Norway, Scotland, USA, and United Kingdom. More than 50 countries are expected to compete at the WQC this year.

The Quiz will be organized by the IQA Sri Lanka branch and will be open to all and will be conducted in English.

The venue for the World Quizzing Championships 2024 in Sri Lanka will be the Royal College Union Skills Centre, Rajakeeya Mawatha Colombo 07 and the quiz will be held from 2.30 p.m – 6.30 p.m. on Saturday 01 June 2024
