The Adani Group, one of India’s largest business conglomerates, has announced a major initiative to boost skill development and employment opportunities in India. The group has partnered with Singapore’s ITE Education Services (ITEES) to launch the Adani Global Skills Academy, aimed at creating a highly skilled workforce for industries such as green energy, manufacturing, high technology, industrial design, and project management.

This initiative is expected to have significant implications for Sri Lanka’s education sector and workforce development strategies, as it provides a model for public private partnerships in technical and vocational training.

Investment and Scale of the Project

To support this large scale skill development program, the Adani family will donate over Rs 2,000 crore (USD 240 million) to establish multiple internationally benchmarked finishing schools under the Adani Global Skills Academy brand. These schools will cater to students from technical and vocational education backgrounds, equipping them with globally recognized certifications.

In its first phase, the world’s largest finishing school for technical training will be set up in Mundra, Gujarat, training over 25,000 students annually in cutting edge technologies. These learners, primarily diploma holders and technical institute graduates, will undergo an intensive bootcamp style training program to enhance their skills before entering the job market.

Job Placement and Industry Demand

Upon successful completion of training, students will be offered employment within the Adani Group and other industries based on their chosen field and expertise. This ensures that trained professionals are industry ready from day one, bridging the skill gap in India’s rapidly growing industrial sectors.

The program aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, a government-led campaign to transform the country into a global manufacturing hub by strengthening its workforce capabilities.

Collaboration with Singapore’s ITEES

ITEES, a global leader in technical and vocational education, will serve as the knowledge partner for the program. Their expertise in immersive learning techniques, AI-driven simulations, and mixed reality training will create a world-class training ecosystem. Singapore’s vocational training system is highly regarded globally, making this collaboration a strategic move to bring international best practices to India.

“Through this partnership, we aim to create a continuous pipeline of industry ready professionals who can support India’s economic growth. This will also serve as a blueprint for other countries, including Sri Lanka, to enhance their technical education models,” said Robin Bhowmik, CEO of Adani Skills and Education.

For Sri Lanka, this initiative highlights the importance of investing in skill based education to match global industry requirements. With increasing demand for skilled professionals in IT, manufacturing, and renewable energy, Sri Lanka’s government and private sector could explore similar partnerships with global leaders like ITEES to develop a skilled workforce.

Additionally, Sri Lankan students and professionals could seek opportunities to enroll in such internationally recognized programs in India or collaborate with institutions that adopt similar models locally. The initiative also underscores the importance of government and private sector collaboration to bridge the skill gap and drive economic development.

Adani’s Commitment to Social Development

This skill development project is part of Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani’s larger vision to contribute to nation building through education and healthcare. Last year, he announced a donation of Rs 10,000 crore (USD 1.2 billion) for social causes, including infrastructure for healthcare, education, and vocational training.

The group is also investing over Rs 6,000 crore (USD 720 million) to build two integrated health campuses in Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
