Chelini MitharaMadarasinghe and MethukiSandulyaAsuramanna were recognized for achieving the Best International GCSE results in Sri Lanka at the Pearson Edexcel High Achievers’ Awards 2024, held recently at the BMICH. Both students achieved an outstanding twelve Grade 9s, marking a significant accomplishment in the country’s academic landscape.
In addition, Joel Shankar delivered exceptional overall results at Advanced Level, securing 5 A*s across a combination of Edexcel and Cambridge examinations, making him one of Sri Lanka’s most accomplished students of the year.
In an extraordinary feat, Gateway students secured the highest marks in Sri Lanka across nine International Advanced Level (IAL) and International GCSE (iGCSE) subjects in the May/June 2024 examinations. Four of these students earned top rankings either in the World or in Asia. At the International Advanced Level (IAL), Luke Erwin Joel Shankar received the prestigious Best in the World award for Chemistry, while ThehasaLinangiKarapitiya earned the same recognition for Economics. VidviniMinsadiWijayathilaka and Wageesha Helindi De Silva were honored with the highest marks in Asia for iGCSE Business. Wageesha was also the best in Sri Lanka for English Language along with Adheesha Dissanayake (iGCSE Mathematics), Chelini Madarasinghe(GCSE Psychology) and Anna Perera Pathirage(iGCSE Global Citizenship) who also received the highest marks in Sri Lanka. Joel Shankar was recognized to be the best in Sri Lanka for Advanced Level Physics.
Gateway’s success extended beyond individual subject awards, with many students also receiving High Achiever Awards for their overall performance. Ten students were recognized for achieving three A Stars or more at IAL.

The achievements were not limited to senior students. Gateway’s younger learners also showcased their brilliance. At the Lower Secondary and Primary levels, six students achieved the Highest Mark in the World for iPrimary Mathematics or Science, and one student earned the Highest Mark in Asia for English. Furthermore, four students were recognized for achieving the Highest Mark in the World in iLowerSecondary Mathematics. Additionally, fifty-two students received Best Performer Awards for their excellence in iPrimary and iLowerSecondary Achievement Tests. This remarkable success reflects Gateway’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, highlighting its dedication to inspiring students to achieve their full potential on the global stage.
