The Minimum Z Score for University Admission 2023/2024 refers to the lowest Z Score that a student must achieve to be selected for different courses at state universities in Sri Lanka. These minimum scores are determined based on the student’s performance in the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination and are specific to each course, university, and district under the “Normal Intake” category.
The Z Score is a standard measurement used to fairly rank students across different districts and streams. Since the number of available university seats is limited, competition is very high. Therefore, achieving the minimum Z Score or higher is crucial for securing a place in your desired course and university.
Every year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka publishes these minimum Z Scores after analyzing A/L results. Students can check the minimum Z Score required for each university course based on their district of residence and the stream they studied (Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.). For instance, the Z Score needed for Medicine in Colombo District will be different from the score needed in a district like Monaragala.
This information is important because it helps students understand the level of competition and plan their higher education pathways accordingly. If a student’s Z Score is equal to or higher than the published minimum for their chosen course and district, they have a chance of being selected.
The Minimum Z Score List for the 2023/2024 academic year is available in English and Sinhala for easier access and understanding by students and parents across the country.
